Sports Management

Sports management professionals combine the love they have for sports with business and marketing skills to reach their ultimate goal. From high profile major league sports, college, high school, amateur or international, spectator sports are a popular source for entertainment and Sports Management professionals are behind the scenes, making it all come to life!   As with a sports team, there are many players within the Sports Management profession; Sports Information Directors act as a liaison between teams and athletic departments, preparing press releases, and organize “media days”. Athletic Directors and General Managers report to team owners or educational director or principle to make personnel decisions such as the hiring of team coaches, scheduling, along with taking care of various tasks within the organization. Sports Agents work with players and coaches to negotiate contracts and sponsorship opportunities.

As a CE sports management intern, you could see many different aspects of the industry. Sports Management professionals can be found working at educational institutions, scouting upcoming students, discovering new ways to market a team, coordinating with local media for sponsorship opportunities or perhaps coming up with fresh ideas for half-time entertainment.

Past CE sports management interns have:

  • Assisted professional players like Boston Red Sox’s Jon Lestor at Josh Beckett’s Charity Event
  • Create presentations as to why to draft certain upcoming stats from the NCAA
  • Interview fans to gain a sense of their experience, what drew them to the stadium, for instance.
  • Helped with venue preparation, before, during, and after games
  • Marketing and advertising idea creation and execution
  • And much, much more…

Testimonials

I was in charge of running the scoreboard and stat management for major tennis matches and got to meet huge tennis stars like Anna Kournikova, Venus Williams, and Martina Navratilova.  Part of my responsibilities also included assisting the players in all their needs. Never have I dreamed of working directly with some of Tennis’ bests!

I worked with Jon Lestor of the Boston Red Sox assisting him during a charity event for Josh Beckett. It was incredible! Mainly, I needed to keep away all of his fan base, allowing certain people to connect with Jon, and his wife, and others were not allowed past me! I also got to help create, prepare, and advertise the charity event for Mr. Beckett. Even though I am a die-hard Yankees fan, it was an opportunity of a lifetime!

I happen to be an avid Sports Center coach potato and know everything about the NFL, NBA, and NCAA. My internship used my knowledge of upcoming hot NCAA football players where I needed to create presentations and convince my internship mentor why our agency should work with certain players. It was amazing to feel like an adult and get treated like an adult and a professional just because I had such deep insight into sports and the NCAA
