Dear Parents,

We understand that entrusting your son or daughter to us for a summer internship experience is a significant step. Please know that we take very seriously our responsibility for your child’s safety and success.

Discovery Internships is committed to providing your child with a “jump start “on their career planning by providing genuine work experience within a highly supportive environment. Additionally, we provide an extensive calendar of activities to help cultivate a vibrant community and ensure all of our students are exposed to the diverse cultural, educational, and recreational resources of their host cities. We give all participants some free time to explore on their own, but we create a comprehensive safety net that includes use of the “buddy system,” a sign-in/sign-out policy, dorm curfews, and other important practices and policies that we have refined based on over 40 years experience running summer programs. Expectations for program participant behavior are clearly outlined to all students and strictly enforced. These non-negotiable rules are established for the safety and well being of all program participants.

In addition to carefully selecting a great class of interns, we know that a great summer experience requires a great staff. Each campus has its own Discovery leadership team of experienced directors and Resident Counselors (RCs). Our RCs are mature, enthusiastic upperclassmen, graduates, and teachers from leading universities. Many are Discovery alumni, and all attend our intensive On-Campus Orientation prior to the program. RCs live next to students in the residence halls to ensure a smooth transition to college living.

All RCs are over 21 years of age and non-smokers. For a more supportive and personalized program, students are divided into small RC groups of approximately 10-12, with their own Resident Counselor. Frequent RC group meetings provide an environment for social and academic interaction and adjustment.

Our on-campus administrative staff is the most experienced in the pre-college field – nobody else comes close. Discovery staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Each student also has a personal Internship Coordinator (IC). The ICs are active liaisons between interns and our internship providers. ICs support and coach students on matters relating to their internships by providing suggestions, resolving any issues and working proactively with both the student and employer to ensure an optimal internship experience for all parties.

We are passionate about making certain that your son or daughter will have the best possible summer experience. We will expect them to live up to our standards of behavior and to carry themselves professionally in their internships, but we anticipate that both you and we will be proud of their accomplishments by summer’s end.
