HOUSING
CE Boston interns live in The Little Building on the campus of Emerson College, in the heart of Boston’s Theater District and adjacent to Boston Common. The 12-story residence hall offers 24-hour-security and a cafeteria.

Interns are assigned to five or six bedroom suites with a bath and a common living room. All rooms are fully carpeted with overhead lighting and air-conditioning. Each floor has laundry facilities, communal bathroom facilities, and a lounge area with color television. There are single and double rooms; and room assignments are determined by CE Staff. A CE staff member occupies a single room in each suite and is on call 24 hours a day.

You will need sheets, a blanket and a pillow for your bed (twin-size). You should also bring towels, toiletries, hangers, alarm clock, a desk lamp, and an extension cord and a laundry bag or basket.

FOOD
Career Exploration’s interns and staff dine in the cafeteria of The Little Building. Breakfast and dinner are provided cafeteria-style during the week and brunch and dinner on the weekends. Meals include hot and cold choices, something for every diet and palate.

Interns are responsible for purchasing their own lunch Monday–Friday as they will be eating at, or near, their internships.

Special dietary needs can be met, provided Career Explorations is made aware of such special needs beforehand.

TRANSPORTATION
Emerson’s location in downtown Boston makes for an easy commute for the majority of CE interns. Most internship placements are accessible by foot or via public transportation. The Boylston Street station of Boston’s subway system, the MBTA, is conveniently located directly across the street from the Little Building.

Each intern receives a prepaid MBTA pass good for one month’s travel on buses and subways in Boston. Orientation includes our Passport to Boston scavenger hunt to help you learn the public transportation system and to introduce you to both Emerson and Boston. By the time you head to your internship, you will feel at home traveling around the city.

Interns are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to Boston. Students arriving at Logan Airport or South Station will be met by a CE staff member and accompanied to the residence hall. The procedure will be reversed on departure.

EVENINGS & WEEKENDS
Beyond your internship, you’ll enjoy the excitement of the big city. CE arranges a diverse calendar of evening and weekend activities including theater, concerts, sporting events, museums, shopping, group dinners, and much more.

COLLEGE & CAREER PLANNING
As you begin to plan your “life after high school,” CE provides perspective, advice and ideas to help you make important decisions. We bring in experts to talk about college planning and career options. You can ask questions, share concerns and begin to map out the next few years.

Optional college tours in Boston area are also provided. By special arrangement, SAT preparation is available.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
One Sunday, the interns and staff will participate in a community service project. Whether we work with senior citizens, feed the homeless or clean-up a park, we will work together to make a difference in our host city.

Your resident assistant will record the work you do and provide a certificate of participation.

CURFEW
All students must be in the dorm and check-in with their group advisor at 11:00 pm Sunday – Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday. Students who are late for curfew will be sent home. There are no exceptions or extensions to the curfew.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS
All interns are required to attend scheduled evening and weekend events. You may not miss your internship or planned evening and weekend activities to spend time with visiting family and friends.
